Ericaceous Organic Compost

Peat Free, Organic, Recycled

Tub and Basket Compost

  • For use with all acid loving / lime hating plants such as azaleas, camellias and heathers
  • Improves root growth and flower power
  • Retains moisture and enhances drainage

Vital Earth Ericaceous Organic Compost has been developed specially for ericaceous (lime-hating) plants such as Rhododendron, Azalea, Camellia, Primula and Heather.

It is made from completely organic, peat-free materials, including specially composted garden waste and Vitalizer: an entirely natural, long-lasting growth booster, giving strong healthy plants and prolific blooms.

How to Use Vital Earth Ericaceous Organic Compost

Potting

  • Choose a container with one or more drainage holes
  • Water plant well and allow to drain
  • Part-fill the new container with Vital Earth Ericaceous Organic Compost to required depth
  • Gently remove the old pot
  • Position the plant in the new container such that the root-ball is 1-2cm below the rim
  • Fill around the root-ball with Vital Earth Ericaceous Organic Compost, firming gently to avoid air pockets
  • Water in thoroughly

Planting Out
  • Dig a hole approximately twice the diameter of the plant's root-ball and slightly deeper
  • Cover the bottom of the hole with approximately 5cm of Vital Earth Ericaceous Organic Compost
  • Place the plant centrally and back-fill with Vital Earth Ericaceous Organic Compost and water well

Watering

To tell when watering is needed, poke the compost surface with a finger. If the surface is soft, watering is not needed. If it is firm, watering is needed soon. As Vital Earth Ericaceous Organic Compost dries out, natural organic substances (humates) bind the root-ball, making it feel firm. This is a natural harmless effect: in fact, it helps to protect the root-ball during potting on and planting out.

Feeding

Not likely to be needed in less than one year from potting or planting out. The following spring/summer, apply a top dressing of Vital Earth Plant Food and water in: its organic long-lasting nutrients will keep the plant well-fed all season.
