We always associate April with April Showers but this is not always the case. In recent years we have been treated to unseasonably warm weather and droughts.
This year we could even experience snow due to the extended winter we are having.
Some of the jobs required for April include:
Make sure you harvest the winters end crops and make room for new crops. you may find early signs of salad crops ready to harvest too.
We’re hoping the weather will warm up so this si the best time to get out and start to get rid of those persistent weeds that have survived the winter. Weeds compete with good plants for food and water.
Get Rid of Slugs
We do love our wildlife but slugs or more of a pest than a help in our gardens. They will lavish on any sudden bursts of growth so scatter a few slug pellets around your crops. Slug pellets can be harmful to hedgehogs, moles and shrews so use them sparingly.
Believe it or not but spring is actually here but with the never ending frosts we are apprehensive about planting outdoors, but if the weather warms up be prepared to sow vegetables like peas, cabbage, sprouts and broccoli, but be prepared with coverings if the temperature drops again.
Don’t forget to plant out berries and currents in well drained, raked soil or multi purpose compost.
If you love our feathery friends in your garden, make it easier for them to feed by erecting a bird feeder of some sort.
